THREE GREAT QUESTIONS
Where do we come from? What are we doing here? Where are we going? These are three great questions which have always concerned mankind. Philosophers have tried to answer these questions but have been unsuccessful. However, since God has chosen to speak to us through the Bible, we can get a reliable answer to these very important questions.
Where do we come from? We do not have to guess, wonder, or theorize about this question as the answer is plainly stated in God’s Word. Genesis 1:27 says, “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” It is clear that man did not come into being by accident or by chance — we are the product of a designer. The more we study and learn about the human body, the more we are amazed by it. It could no more have come into existence by accident, than our machines, our watches, our houses, or our automobiles. Psalms 14:1 says, “The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God….”
What are we doing here? Contrary to what many may think, we were not put here simply to enjoy whatever pleasure that we can obtain or merely to obtain earthly wealth. Our main reason for being here is to obey and serve God. This is where there is true happiness and reward. Solomon summed up matters in Ecclesiastes 12:13 when he said, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.” Are you fulfilling the purpose in life that you were put here for?
Where are we going? The Bible describes two different places where man can go. At the judgment, there will be a great separation. The faithful servant of God will go to heaven, and he will enjoy eternal life (Mt. 25:26,46; Heb. 4:9; Rev. 21). Heaven is truly a place of joy, rest, and peace. The one who is not a servant of God will dwell eternally in hell. Hell is a place of misery, torment, and punishment (II Thess. 1:8‑9; Rev. 20:13). Toward what destination are you headed?
