THE SINS OF YOUTH

(Psalm 25:7)

Mike Johnson

Sometimes, people try to minimize the sins of youth.  A person may say, for example, “After all, young people must sow their wild oats.”  However, David took the sins of his youth very seriously.  In Psalm 25:7, he pleads with God, “Do not remember the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions; according to Your mercy remember me, for Your goodness’ sake, O Lord.” Later, Paul told young Timothy, “Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart” (2 Tim 2:22). Ecclesiastes 12:1 says, “Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth….”

Today, regardless of age, we need to try to avoid sin.  When we sin, we must ask for God’s mercy and depend upon his loving-kindness. Sin is always serious!
